Walking Route: Hotel to MG Marg via Lal Bazaar
After freshening up, we decided to explore Gangtok on foot.
Within 5 minutes of walking, we reached:

Lal Bazaar Gangtok Market
This is a local market where you can see the real lifestyle of Gangtok people.
Here you will find:
- Fresh vegetables and fruits
- Local groceries
- Budget shopping items
👉 Unlike MG Marg, Lal Bazaar is less touristy and more local.
From Lal Bazaar, we took a shortcut route, and within 2–3 minutes we reached the back side of MG Marg.
MG Marg Gangtok Travel Guide – What to Expect
MG Marg is the most famous tourist place in Gangtok.
👉 It is a vehicle-free zone, clean, and very well maintained.
Even though we entered from the backside, the environment was very lively and happening.
Key Highlights of MG Marg
- Clean walking street
- Sitting benches for tourists
- Cafes, restaurants, and shops
- No traffic or vehicle noise
👉 If you enter from the main side, you will see the famous Mahatma Gandhi Statue, which is a major attraction.

If you are searching for shopping places in MG Marg Gangtok, here’s what you can expect:
- Souvenir shops (gifts, handicrafts)
- Clothing and winter wear
- Sikkim tea and organic products
👉 The entire street feels like an open shopping mall.
Food Experience in MG Marg Gangtok
After walking for a while, we got hungry and decided to have our lunch somewhere in MG Marg.
Lunch Experience
We tried pork ribs at a restaurant in MG Marg (exact shop name not remembered), and it turned out to be one of the best meals of the day.
👉 Taste was rich and flavorful, and portion size was good.
Momos in MG Marg
Later, we also tried:
- Chicken momos
- Veg momos
👉 Fresh, juicy, and very tasty — a must-try in Gangtok.
💡 Important Tip:
Food prices in MG Marg are slightly higher compared to places like Darjeeling Mall Road.
Evening Experience at MG Marg
As evening approached:
- The lights turned on
- Crowd increased
- Weather became cooler
We spent some time:
- Sitting and relaxing
- Taking photos and videos
- Enjoying the peaceful vibe
👉 MG Marg is best experienced in the evening.
Dinner & Return to Hotel
By around 8:00–8:30 PM, shops started closing.
Since we were already tired, we packed our dinner and walked back to our hotel.
👉 As Greendale Residence was just 5 minutes away, reaching the hotel was very convenient.
After returning:
- We had dinner
- Took rest
- Ended our first day in Gangtok
