Unlike a shopping mall filled with branded products, Sonajhuri Haat brings together skilled artisans from different districts of West Bengal under one roof. Here you can buy unique handmade crafts directly from the people who make them.

Recently, my wife Priyunka and I visited this beautiful handicraft fair. We spent a few hours exploring the stalls, interacting with artisans, and purchasing a few handcrafted products. It was not just a shopping experience—it was an opportunity to understand Bengal’s rich artistic heritage.

Whether you are a tourist visiting Kolkata or a local resident looking for unique home decor, this guide will help you understand everything about Sonajhuri Haat.

Sonajhuri Haat

What is Sonajhuri Haat?

Sonajhuri Haat is a handicraft fair organized in New Town, Kolkata, where artisans from different parts of West Bengal showcase and sell their handmade products.

Unlike commercial markets, most products here are handmade and represent Bengal’s traditional art forms. Buying directly from these artisans also helps support rural livelihoods and preserve traditional craftsmanship.

This makes Sonajhuri Haat one of the best places in Kolkata for anyone interested in authentic handicrafts.

It is well connected by:

If you are already visiting attractions like Eco Park, Biswa Bangla Gate, Mother’s Wax Museum, or Central Mall New Town, you can easily include Sonajhuri Haat in your itinerary.

Our Visit to Sonajhuri Haat

We reached the fair during the afternoon and immediately noticed the lively atmosphere. The entrance itself reflected Bengal’s traditional artistic culture.

As we walked through the stalls, every corner displayed something unique. Unlike ordinary shopping complexes, every shop had its own identity because each artisan specializes in a different craft.

The fair was vibrant yet peaceful. There was no pressure from sellers, allowing visitors to browse comfortably and learn about the products.

Many artisans happily explained how their crafts were made and how much time each piece required.

What Can You Buy at Sonajhuri Haat?

One of the biggest reasons people visit Sonajhuri Haat is the incredible variety of handmade products.

During our visit, we found:

Howrah Metro: Complete Guide to the Esplanade to Howrah Metro Journey & India’s First Underwater Metro

Howrah Metro

The Howrah Metro has become one of the biggest attractions in Kolkata since the launch of India’s first underwater metro tunnel beneath the Hooghly River. What was once a dream project is now one of the city’s fastest and most convenient ways to travel between Kolkata and Howrah. Every day, thousands of office-goers, students, railway passengers, and tourists use this metro route to avoid heavy traffic on the Howrah Bridge and enjoy a comfortable journey.

If you are planning to travel from Esplanade Metro Station to Howrah Metro Station, this guide will help you understand everything about the journey. Along with my personal travel experience, I will also cover the Kolkata Metro network, routes, fares, timings, station facilities, and useful travel tips.

Kolkata Metro – India’s First Metro Railway

The Kolkata Metro is India’s first metro railway system. It started operations in 1984 and completely changed public transportation in the city. Over the years, the metro network has expanded beyond the traditional North-South corridor and now connects important locations such as Salt Lake, Sealdah, Howrah, and New Garia.

Today, the Kolkata Metro consists of multiple corridors, each serving different parts of the metropolitan area.

The Blue Line connects Dakshineswar with Kavi Subhash and remains the busiest corridor in the city.

The Green Line (East-West Metro) is the newest engineering marvel that connects Howrah Maidan, Howrah, Mahakaran, Esplanade, Sealdah, Salt Lake, and Sector V. This is the route that includes India’s first underwater metro tunnel.

The Orange Line is being developed to connect New Garia with Kolkata Airport, while the Purple Line will improve connectivity between Joka and Esplanade. As these projects are completed, Kolkata will have one of the most extensive metro networks in eastern India.

My Journey from Esplanade to Howrah Metro Station

My journey began at Esplanade Metro Station, one of the busiest interchange stations in Kolkata. After completing the security check, I entered the station and started walking towards the Green Line platform.

The station immediately impressed me with its modern architecture, clean surroundings, digital information displays, and well-organized passenger movement. Clear signboards made it easy to locate the platform even for first-time visitors.

While walking through the station, I noticed a large number of commuters along with tourists who had come specifically to experience the famous underwater metro route. Since the Howrah Metro has become one of Kolkata’s newest attractions, many visitors were taking photographs inside the station.

When the train arrived, it was quite crowded. Because of the heavy rush inside the coach, I couldn’t record the underwater section of the journey. However, the metro ride itself was smooth, quiet, and comfortable.

Within just a few minutes, the train reached Howrah Metro Station. After getting off the train, I recorded the platform and walked towards the station exit. The station is spacious, bright, and equipped with modern facilities such as escalators, elevators, CCTV surveillance, and digital information boards. The exit is clearly marked, making it easy for passengers to reach Howrah Railway Station and nearby transport services.

Although I couldn’t film the underwater section due to the crowd, the journey itself was enjoyable and demonstrated how efficiently Kolkata Metro has improved connectivity between the two cities.

Why is the Howrah Metro So Famous?

The biggest reason behind the popularity of the Howrah Metro is its underwater tunnel beneath the Hooghly River, making it the first metro tunnel of its kind in India.

The tunnel lies approximately 32 metres below the riverbed, and the underwater stretch is around 520 metres long. The train crosses beneath the river in less than a minute, providing passengers with a unique travel experience. While the river itself cannot be seen from inside the train because it travels through a sealed tunnel, the engineering achievement has attracted visitors from all over the country.

The Howrah Metro has also reduced travel time significantly. What could previously take 30 to 45 minutes by road during peak traffic can now be completed in just a few minutes by metro.

Howrah Metro

Route, Fare and Timings

The Green Line currently connects Howrah Maidan, Howrah, Mahakaran, Esplanade, Sealdah, Phoolbagan, Salt Lake Stadium, Bengal Chemical, City Centre, Central Park, Karunamoyee, and Sector V.

The journey between Esplanade and Howrah usually takes about 5 to 7 minutes, making it one of the fastest ways to cross the Hooghly River.

The fare from Esplanade to Howrah Metro Station is approximately ₹10, making it one of the most affordable public transport options in Kolkata. Passengers can travel using either a token or a rechargeable smart card.

Metro services generally operate from morning until late evening, though timings may vary on weekends and public holidays. It is always advisable to check the latest schedule before travelling.

Facilities Available at Howrah Metro Station

Howrah Metro Station has been designed to handle a large number of passengers comfortably. Some of the facilities available include:

  • Escalators and elevators
  • CCTV surveillance
  • Digital passenger information displays
  • Clean platforms and waiting areas
  • Drinking water facilities
  • Smart card recharge counters
  • Easy pedestrian connectivity to Howrah Railway Station

These facilities make travelling convenient for both daily commuters and tourists.

Howrah Metro

Places to Visit After Your Metro Journey

One of the advantages of travelling on the Howrah Metro is that several famous attractions are located nearby. After exiting the station, visitors can easily explore Howrah Bridge (Rabindra Setu), Howrah Railway Station, Mallick Ghat Flower Market, Millennium Park, B.B.D. Bagh, and Prinsep Ghat. These places showcase Kolkata’s rich history, architecture, and vibrant culture, making the metro journey a perfect addition to any sightseeing itinerary.

Travel Tips

If you are travelling on the Howrah Metro for the first time, consider visiting during non-peak hours to avoid heavy crowds. Carry a smart card if you plan to use the metro frequently, as it saves time at ticket counters. Follow station announcements, respect metro rules, and keep your belongings secure during busy hours. If you enjoy photography, capture the station architecture where permitted, but always follow the latest metro regulations regarding photography and videography.

Final Thoughts

The Howrah Metro is much more than a transport system—it is a symbol of Kolkata’s modern infrastructure and engineering excellence. The combination of affordable fares, fast travel, modern stations, and India’s first underwater metro tunnel has made it one of the city’s must-visit attractions.

My journey from Esplanade Metro Station to Howrah Metro Station was smooth, convenient, and enjoyable. Although I couldn’t record the underwater section because the train was crowded, the overall experience was memorable and well worth trying.

Whether you are a local commuter or a tourist exploring Kolkata, travelling on the Howrah Metro is an experience you should not miss. It offers a unique opportunity to witness one of India’s greatest urban transport achievements while enjoying a quick and comfortable journey across the Hooghly River.

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata: Is It Haunted? The Mystery Behind Kolkata’s Forgotten Shopping Destination

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata was once one of the most recognizable shopping destinations in New Town. Located in one of Kolkata’s fastest-growing urban areas, the mall attracted families, shoppers, students, and working professionals looking for fashion, lifestyle products, dining options, and weekend entertainment.

Today, however, the story is very different.

Many people searching online are asking questions like:

  • Why is Central Mall Newtown Kolkata empty?
  • Is Central Mall Newtown Kolkata haunted?
  • What happened to Central Mall Kolkata?
  • Is Reliance taking over Central Mall?
  • Did the Future Group crisis affect Central Mall?

After recently visiting the mall with my wife Priyunka, I can understand why these questions are becoming increasingly popular.

What we experienced inside was both surprising and emotional.

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata: A Place Filled With Memories

For many Kolkata People, Central Mall was not just another shopping mall.

It was a place connected with memories.

My wife Priyunka lived in New Town before our marriage and used to visit the mall regularly. I also have a personal connection with the place because a significant part of my marriage shopping was done here. One of my favorite purchases, a Titan Hybrid Watch, was also bought from this mall.

Back then, Central Mall Newtown Kolkata felt alive.

The stores were active, the corridors were crowded, and weekends were full of energy.

People visited not only for shopping but also to spend time with family and friends.

That is why our recent visit felt so unexpected.

How We Ended Up Visiting Central Mall Again

The visit was not planned.

As the founder of Mukherjee Handicrafts, I frequently visit artisan fairs and handicraft exhibitions to discover unique handmade products and connect with skilled craftsmen.

On a Saturday, Priyunka and I visited a handicrafts fair near Axis Mall in New Town.

The fair was full of beautiful handmade products from different parts of India.

We purchased several interesting items, including:

  • A handmade falcon-shaped keychain crafted from buffalo horn for my Hero Xoom 125.
  • A wooden coaster for everyday use.
  • A few unique handcrafted decorative products that caught our attention.

After spending time exploring the fair, we noticed Central Mall standing nearby.

Since both of us had memories attached to the place, we decided to take a walk inside.

That simple decision turned into a journey through nostalgia and mystery.

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata Feels Like a Different Place Today

The moment we entered the mall, something felt unusual.

At first, we thought it was simply because we had arrived during a quieter time of the day.

But as we continued exploring, it became clear that the atmosphere was very different from what we remembered.

The corridors felt unusually silent.

The crowd was minimal.

Several sections appeared inactive.

The energy that once defined the mall seemed to have disappeared.

For a moment, it felt as if time had stopped.

What surprised us most was not the physical condition of the building but the contrast between its past and present.

The mall still occupies a prime location in New Town, yet the footfall appears dramatically lower than what many people would expect.

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata

Why Do People Call Central Mall Newtown Kolkata a Ghost Mall?

One phrase that frequently appears in online discussions is “ghost mall.”

Many visitors who recently explored the property use this term to describe the atmosphere inside.

The reason is simple.

Large shopping malls are designed to be filled with movement, conversations, music, and activity.

When those elements disappear, the environment can feel strangely unsettling.

Walking through a large commercial building with very few visitors naturally creates an eerie impression.

This has led some people to jokingly refer to Central Mall Newtown Kolkata as a ghost mall.

While the nickname may sound dramatic, it reflects the surprising contrast between the mall’s current condition and its former popularity.

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata

Is Central Mall Newtown Kolkata Haunted?

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata

This is perhaps the most searched and discussed question.

Let’s be clear.

During our visit, we found absolutely no evidence that Central Mall Newtown Kolkata is haunted.

There were no paranormal incidents.

No unexplained events.

No verified reports supporting such claims.

However, it is easy to understand why these rumours exist.

When people walk through quiet hallways, see vacant retail spaces, and experience an unusually silent atmosphere, their imagination often fills the gaps.

Across the world, many under utilized malls have gained reputations as haunted locations simply because of their appearance and atmosphere.

In reality, the explanation is usually economic rather than supernatural.

Still, the mystery surrounding Central Mall continues to attract attention online and has become part of the mall’s modern identity.

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata and the Future Group Connection

Another major topic connected to the mall involves Future Group.

For years, Future Group played a significant role in India’s organized retail sector and operated several well-known retail brands.

Central Mall was part of that broader retail ecosystem.

However, Future Group later faced serious financial challenges.

Debt-related issues, business restructuring, and legal disputes created uncertainty across various retail operations.

Many local observers believe that these corporate difficulties may have contributed to the decline in activity associated with Central Mall Newtown Kolkata.

Although the complete business impact is not publicly visible to visitors, the timing has led many people to connect the mall’s reduced activity with the wider challenges faced by Future Group.

The Reliance Takeover Theory

Whenever people discuss the future of Central Mall, another theory quickly emerges.

The Reliance takeover theory.

Because of the highly publicized business developments involving Future Group and Reliance Retail, many people wonder whether Central Mall could eventually become part of a larger redevelopment plan.

Questions frequently discussed include:

  • Will Reliance Retail take over the property?
  • Will the mall be renovated?
  • Could the location be transformed into a modern retail destination?

At present, there is no official confirmation that Reliance Retail is taking over Central Mall Newtown Kolkata.

Nevertheless, the theory continues to circulate among shoppers, local residents, and urban observers.

Given the strategic location of the property, it is not difficult to understand why such speculation exists.

Why the Location Still Has Enormous Potential

Despite the decline in footfall, one thing remains unchanged.

The location is excellent.

Central Mall is situated in one of Kolkata’s most rapidly developing urban regions.

The surrounding area includes:

  • Axis Mall
  • Eco Park
  • Biswa Bangla Gate
  • Major residential complexes
  • IT offices
  • Educational institutions
  • Hotels and commercial developments

Thousands of people move through New Town every day.

From a business perspective, the location still possesses tremendous value.

This is why many visitors believe the property could be revived under the right management and investment strategy.

Can Central Mall Newtown Kolkata Make a Comeback?

History shows that shopping malls can reinvent themselves.

Across India and around the world, many struggling malls have successfully returned to popularity through renovation, rebranding, and modernization.

Central Mall could potentially benefit from:

  • New retail brands
  • Family entertainment zones
  • Modern food courts
  • Cultural events
  • Handicraft exhibitions
  • Live performances
  • Improved customer experience

The structure itself still has potential.

What appears to be missing is a renewed vision capable of attracting people back.

Our Final Thoughts

Our visit began as a simple trip to a handicrafts fair.

We expected to discover unique handmade products, and we did.

What we did not expect was to encounter one of the most fascinating urban mysteries in New Town.

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata is not haunted.

But it is undeniably intriguing.

The combination of nostalgia, declining activity, corporate speculation, and ghost mall rumours has transformed the mall into one of Kolkata’s most talked-about commercial spaces.

For those who remember its golden days, the experience is emotional.

For curious visitors, it is fascinating.

And for urban explorers, it offers a rare glimpse into how rapidly cities and commercial destinations can change.

Whether the future brings redevelopment, renovation, a new owner, or a complete transformation remains uncertain.

Until then, Central Mall Newtown Kolkata continues to stand as a reminder that even the most popular destinations can evolve in unexpected ways—and that every empty corridor still holds stories from a much busier past.

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata: From a Popular Shopping Destination to an Almost Forgotten Mall – Our Personal Experience

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata

When someone talks about shopping malls in New Town Kolkata, names like Axis Mall, City Centre 2, and Central Mall Newtown often come to mind. Among them, Central Mall Newtown Kolkata once enjoyed a reputation as one of the most popular shopping destinations in the area.

However, during our recent visit, my wife Priyunka and I witnessed something that genuinely surprised us.

What was once a vibrant shopping hub now feels strangely silent, almost abandoned, and far removed from the bustling mall we remembered visiting years ago.

This blog is not just another Central Mall review. It is a personal travel experience from our journey to a handicrafts fair near Axis Mall, which unexpectedly turned into an emotional walk through memories and a reality check about how dramatically a famous shopping mall can change over time.

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata – A Mall Full of Memories

Before sharing our recent experience, let me tell you why this mall is special to us.

Back in 2022, Central Mall Newtown was one of our preferred shopping destinations. My wife Priyunka used to stay in New Town before our marriage and often visited the mall with friends and family.

For me, the place carries some unforgettable memories as well.

A significant portion of my marriage shopping happened here. In fact, I also purchased my beloved Titan Hybrid Watch from Central Mall. At that time, the mall was lively, bright, and filled with shoppers exploring fashion, electronics, home décor, and lifestyle stores.

Naturally, when we found ourselves nearby recently, we couldn’t resist revisiting it.

Visiting the Handicrafts Fair Near Axis Mall NewTown Kolkata

As many readers know, apart from running Safarnama Online, I am also associated with Mukherjee Handicrafts, an e-commerce brand focused on traditional Indian handicrafts.

Because of this, I regularly visit handicraft exhibitions, artisan fairs, and handmade product festivals to discover unique products and connect with skilled artisans.

On a pleasant Saturday, Priyunka and I decided to visit a handicrafts mela near Axis Mall in New Town, Kolkata.

The fair featured a wide range of handmade products from different regions of India. Walking through the stalls was a delightful experience.

Among the items we purchased were:

  • A beautifully handcrafted Falcon-shaped keychain made from buffalo horn.
  • A wooden coaster set for daily use.
  • Several handmade decorative products that caught our attention.

The craftsmanship displayed by the artisans was remarkable. Each product carried a unique story and reflected the skill of traditional Indian craftsmen.

For someone passionate about handicrafts, events like these are always inspiring.

A Sudden Decision to Visit Central Mall

After finishing our shopping at the handicrafts fair, we noticed something familiar standing nearby.

There it was.

Central Mall.

Located opposite Axis Mall in New Town, the building still looked massive from the outside.

We looked at each other and immediately decided:

“Let’s go inside and see how it looks now.”

We expected nostalgia.

Instead, we encountered shock.

First Impressions: Something Felt Wrong

The moment we entered the mall, we sensed that something was different.

Very different.

The atmosphere felt unusually quiet.

The footfall was minimal.

Many areas appeared empty.

Some sections looked poorly maintained compared to what we remembered years ago.

At first, we thought perhaps it was because we had visited during a less crowded time of the day.

But as we continued exploring floor after floor, the reality became more apparent.

The mall simply did not feel alive anymore.

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata

Inside Central Mall Newtown Kolkata in 2026

As we walked through the mall, several things immediately caught our attention.

Large Empty Spaces

Many sections appeared underutilized.

The spacious floors that once housed active stores now felt unusually vacant.

A shopping mall depends heavily on energy generated by visitors, retail stores, and ongoing activities. Without that energy, even the best-designed spaces can feel lifeless.

Low Footfall

One of the most striking observations was the lack of visitors.

Even on a weekend, which is usually considered prime shopping time, the crowd was surprisingly small.

For a mall located in one of Kolkata’s fastest-growing urban areas, this was unexpected.

Dim and Silent Environment

Shopping malls are usually filled with music, conversations, promotional activities, and excitement.

Here, however, the environment felt strangely silent.

The atmosphere created a feeling that was difficult to describe—somewhere between nostalgia and disappointment.

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata

Maintenance Concerns

Certain sections appeared less maintained than what one would expect from a major retail destination.

Compared with newer shopping malls in New Town Kolkata, the difference was noticeable.

Central Mall Newtown Kolkata

The Emotional Side of the Visit

What made this experience more emotional was the fact that this wasn’t just another mall for us.

Every corner reminded us of a different time.

A time when the mall was crowded.

A time when we visited before marriage.

A time when New Town itself was growing rapidly as one of Kolkata’s most modern urban hubs. Today, New Town remains one of Kolkata’s most developed and rapidly evolving areas, with new infrastructure, commercial projects, and lifestyle destinations continuously emerging.

Standing inside the mall, we couldn’t help comparing the present with the past.

The contrast was striking.

Why Has Central Mall Newtown Lost Its Popularity?

While we cannot officially confirm the reasons, several factors may have contributed.

Competition from Other Shopping Destinations

Over the years, New Town and nearby areas have witnessed significant commercial development.

Shoppers today have multiple options including:

  • Axis Mall
  • City Centre 2
  • Acropolis Mall
  • South City Mall
  • Various lifestyle and entertainment hubs

As consumer preferences evolve, malls need constant reinvention to stay relevant.

Changing Shopping Habits

Online shopping has dramatically transformed retail behavior.

Many customers now prefer purchasing products online rather than visiting physical stores.

This shift has affected shopping malls across India.

Lack of New Attractions

Successful malls continuously introduce new experiences, brands, entertainment zones, and events.

Without regular updates, customer interest naturally declines over time.

Is Central Mall Completely Closed?

No.

However, based on our personal visit, it no longer carries the same energy and popularity that it once had.

That difference is impossible to ignore.

Should You Visit Central Mall Newtown Kolkata?

If you are interested in exploring Kolkata’s changing urban landscape, the answer is yes.

The visit offers an interesting perspective on how commercial spaces evolve over time.

You can also combine your trip with:

  • Axis Mall New Town
  • New Town Walking Street
  • Eco Park
  • Biswa Bangla Gate
  • Local handicraft fairs and exhibitions

For photographers, urban explorers, vloggers, and travel bloggers, the location provides a unique story worth documenting.

Final Thoughts: A Mall That Deserves a Second Life

Our Saturday trip began with handcrafted treasures and ended with an unexpected journey into the past.

The handicrafts fair reminded us of the creativity of Indian artisans.

Central Mall reminded us how quickly places can change.

Seeing a once-thriving shopping destination become so quiet was genuinely surprising.

Yet, beneath the silence, the mall still carries countless memories for thousands of Kolkata residents, including us.

Perhaps one day it will reinvent itself and regain the popularity it once enjoyed.

Until then, Central Mall Newtown Kolkata remains a fascinating example of how cities evolve, businesses change, and memories stay alive long after the crowds disappear.

Dakshineswar Temple Kolkata Travel Guide – Metro Route, Timings, Ganga Ghat & Real Experience

Dakshineswar Temple Kolkata

If you are planning to visit Dakshineswar Temple Kolkata, this detailed travel guide will help you with everything — from metro route, temple timings, parking, mobile rules, and real experience.

Recently, me and my wife Priyunka visited the famous Dakshineswar Kali Temple, and this blog is based on our real journey from Shyambazar to Dakshineswar, including Ganga Ghat and Bali Bridge sunset view.

How to Reach Dakshineswar Temple Kolkata by Metro

One of the easiest ways to reach Dakshineswar Temple Kolkata is by metro.

We started our journey from Shyambazar Metro Station and directly reached Dakshineswar Metro Station via the North-South metro line.

From the metro station, there is a well-built skywalk that directly connects to the temple area. This skywalk is very helpful, especially during rush hours and festivals.

👉 Tip: Morning time is less crowded compared to afternoon and evening.

Dakshineswar Kali Temple – First Impression

After walking through the skywalk, we reached the main area of the Dakshineswar Mandir.

The temple looks beautiful from outside, with its traditional architecture and peaceful surroundings. Even before entering, you can feel a spiritual vibe here.

Near the entrance, there are multiple shops where you can buy prasad (sweets, flowers, etc.) for Maa Kali.

Mobile, Shoes & Entry Rules (Important Info)

One important thing to know before visiting Dakshineswar Temple Kolkata:

  • ❌ Mobile phones are not allowed inside the temple
  • ❌ Cameras are strictly prohibited
  • 👟 Shoes must be kept outside

💰 Charges (Approximate)

  • Shoe keeping: ₹2 – ₹5 per pair
  • Mobile deposit: ₹5 – ₹10 per phone

These charges are very minimal and well-managed.

👉 Because of this rule, I could not record inside the temple, but trust me — the darshan experience is peaceful.

Dakshineswar Temple Timings

If you are searching for Dakshineswar Temple timings, here is the updated schedule:

⏰ Morning

  • Opening Time: 5:30 AM
  • Darshan till: 12:30 PM

⏰ Evening

  • Reopens: 3:00 PM
  • Closing Time: 8:30 PM

👉 Timings may vary slightly on festivals, especially during Kali Puja.

If you are coming by your own vehicle, there is a dedicated parking area near the temple.

💰 Parking Charges (Approx.)

  • Two-wheeler: ₹10 – ₹20
  • Car: ₹30 – ₹50

In our case, we had our Hero Xoom 125 scooty parked at the station parking, and the process was smooth.

Ganga Ghat Experience – Must Visit

After darshan, we went to the Dakshineswar Ganga Ghat, which is just beside the temple.

This is honestly one of the most peaceful parts of the trip.

  • Calm water of Hooghly River
  • Devotees sitting and relaxing
  • Boats and ferry (launch) services visible

There is also a ferry service between Dakshineswar and Belur Math, which is a very popular route.

👉 If you have time, definitely sit here for 10–15 minutes.

Dakshineswar Temple Kolkata

Bali Bridge Sunset View – Hidden Gem

After finishing everything, we started our return journey on our scooty.

We crossed the famous Bali Bridge, and that moment was just amazing.

  • Sunset view 🌅
  • Dakshineswar Temple visible from distance
  • Ganga flowing below

This part of the journey is something many people miss, but it adds a perfect ending to the trip.

Tips for Visitors

Here are some practical tips for your Dakshineswar Temple visit:

  • Visit early morning for less crowd
  • Carry cash for small payments
  • Avoid weekends if possible
  • Follow temple rules strictly
  • Spend some time at Ganga Ghat

🙏 Final Experience

Our visit to Dakshineswar Kali Temple Kolkata was not just a trip, but a peaceful and spiritual experience.

Even though we could not record inside the temple, the overall journey — metro ride, skywalk, darshan, Ganga Ghat, and Bali Bridge sunset — made it a complete travel experience.

Kolkata to Purulia Train Journey | Santragachi Bike Parking, Rupashi Bangla Experience & One Day Travel Guide

Kolkata to Purulia Train Journey

Kolkata to Purulia Train Journey – A Complete One Day Experience

Travel doesn’t always mean long vacations. Sometimes, even a single day journey can turn into a complete experience. Recently, I had to visit Purulia for some important work, and this trip turned into a perfect example of a Kolkata to Purulia train journey that was practical, budget-friendly, and full of learning.

In this blog, I will share my full journey — starting from the Kolkata region, finding bike parking near Santragachi station, traveling via Rupashi Bangla Express, exploring local transport in Purulia, and managing unexpected train delays during return.

Starting from Kolkata (Konnagar) to Santragachi Station

My journey began early morning from Konnagar, which is part of the greater Kolkata region. I started my ride on my Hero Xoom 125, aiming to reach Santragachi railway station on time.

One major challenge I faced was finding proper Santragachi station bike parking. There are limited clear options available online, and this can be confusing for first-time travelers.

After searching for some time, I finally found a proper parking space on the opposite side of the station.

📍 Santragachi Bike Parking Details:

  • ₹20 for normal duration
  • ₹50 after 10:30 PM
  • Safe and suitable for scooty and bikes

This is a very useful tip if you are planning a Kolkata to Purulia train journey using your own vehicle to reach the station.

Kolkata to Purulia Train Journey

Train Journey via Rupashi Bangla Express

I boarded the Rupashi Bangla Express, one of the most popular trains for this route. The journey was smooth, and interestingly, the train reached earlier than scheduled.

  • Scheduled Arrival: 12:05 PM
  • Actual Arrival: 11:40 AM

Reaching early helped me manage my schedule better and gave me some extra buffer time.

The train journey itself was comfortable and a great option for anyone planning a Kolkata to Purulia train journey.

Local Transport in Purulia

After reaching Purulia station, I took a toto (e-rickshaw) to reach the main bus stand. From there, I had to switch another toto to reach my destination.

🛺 Things to Know:

  • Toto is easily available
  • You may need to change rides
  • Keep small cash ready

Local connectivity is decent, but planning ahead always helps.

Lunch Experience Near Bus Stand

After completing my work, I returned to the bus stand area for lunch.

🍽️ I had:

  • Chicken Biryani
  • Aloo (potato)
  • Egg

The food was simple, tasty, and filling — exactly what you need after a busy day. If you are doing a one day Kolkata to Purulia trip, quick meals like this are convenient and affordable.

Waiting Room Experience at Purulia Station

After lunch, I returned to Purulia station and decided to wait in the upper-class waiting room.

Facilities Available:

  • Air-conditioned seating
  • Clean washrooms
  • Comfortable environment

This is a great option if you have some waiting time before your train.

Return Journey & Unexpected Delay

I boarded the same Rupashi Bangla Express for my return journey to Kolkata.

  • Departure: Around 3:15 PM
  • Destination: Howrah

Initially, everything was smooth. I even took a short nap during the journey.

However, after crossing Kharagpur, the train started slowing down and eventually stopped multiple times. At Andul station, it halted for around 20 minutes, and an announcement confirmed that the train would be delayed.

Smart Travel Decision: Switching to Local Train

Instead of waiting for an uncertain delay, I made a quick decision.

I got down and boarded a Howrah local (galloping) train. This helped me reach Santragachi faster, around 10:50 PM.

This is an important tip for anyone doing a Kolkata to Purulia train journey — always be ready with alternative options.

Returning Home from Santragachi

After reaching Santragachi:

  • I collected my Hero Xoom 125 from the parking
  • Started my ride back home

Route Taken:

Santragachi → Bali → Old GT Road → Uttarpara → Hindmotor → Konnagar

I finally reached home around 12:00 AM, completing a full day of travel and work.

If you are planning a similar trip, here are some useful tips:

✔ Start early to avoid rush
✔ Use proper Santragachi bike parking

The Kolkata to Purulia train journey is:
